Forest Service Links

Up one level

USDA Forest Service sites related to fire and resource management.

Interface South
This Web site is dedicated to heightening awareness of and providing information about wildland-urban interface (WUI) issues. A factsheet series, located under the 'Products' tab, provides information for homeowners and landowners about fire issues in the wildland-urban interface. The site includes links to “Preparing a Firewise Plant List for WUI Residents,” “Selecting and Maintaining Firewise Plants for Landscaping,” “Reducing Wildfire Risk While Achieving Other Landscaping Goals,” and “Understanding Fire Behavior.”
Ecosmart
The U.S. Forest Service Pacific Southwest Research Station’s Center for Urban Forest Research developed EcoSmart-Fire, an interactive, flexible graphics tool designed to help residents make fire safety choices while considering ways to enhance beauty, retain native vegetation, ensure privacy, conserve water, and save energy.
Smokey Bear
Essential wildfire prevention information.
Forest Products Laboratory
Conducting innovative wood and fiber utilization research that contributes to conservation and productivity of the forest resource, thereby sustaining forests, the economy, and quality of life.
Pacific Northwest Research Station
Providing scientific information to land managers, policymakers, and citizens with research stations at 11 locations in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington.
Pacific Wildland Fire Sciences Laboratory
Research currently conducted at the lab includes the impact of fire on air quality and visibility, wildfire and ecology research, the effects of fire on air, the impacts of smoke on human health, and social research (rural and urban wildland interface).
Invasive Species Program
The Program web site provides invasive species information and related management and research activities across the agency and with our many partners. The goal of the USDA Forest Service invasive species program is to reduce, minimize, or eliminate the potential for introduction, establishment, spread, and impact of invasive species across all landscapes and ownerships.
Forests and Rangelands
Forests and Rangelands provides fire, fuels, and land management information to government officials, land and fire management professionals, business, communities, and interested organizations and individuals.
TreeSearch
Research and Development Treesearch is a one stop site for locating Forest Service Research and Development publications online.
Northern Research Station
The Northern Research Station's (NRS) Fire R&D Program supports the four research portfolio areas for organizing fire research and product development activities in the agency: Core Fire Science; Ecological and Environmental Fire Science; Social Fire Science; and Integrated Fire and Fuels Management. The NRS conducts research and develops new products within each of these portfolio areas to address both national and regional fire issues relevant to forest ecosystems in the Midwest and Northeast.
