Fire Compact Links
Forest fire compacts between States reinforce State forest fire programs. State forest fire compacts reduce wildfire suppression costs for local, State, and Federal jurisdictions by allowing States to share personnel and equipment and by minimizing the firefighting burden on any single State during periods of high fire occurrence. The U.S. Forest Service Northeastern Area State and Private Forestry supports four State forest fire compacts with technical and financial assistance.
Firewise Communities
Firewise is a project of the national Fire Protection Association and co-sponsored by the USDA Forest Service, US Department of the Interior and the National Association of State Foresters. The Firewise Communities Program encourages local solutions for wildfire safety by involving homeowners, community leaders, planners, developers, firefighters and others in the effort to protect people and property from wildfire risks. The web site includes information on Firewise Communities courses and training available, a Firewise blog, a catalog for ordering materials and resources and information on Firewise.
